Hello Everyone,

Thanks for having me. I learned about your club from a business card I picked up at Pets Unlimited, Bedford. This sounds like a great place to learn more about a hobby I wish to explore further. I've always kept goldfish, but never explored further.

Currently, we have a 16 gallon community tank with guppies, tetras, platys and assassin snails. My seven-year-old claims that one. My eleven-year-old has a 20 gallon tank with a red-tailed black shark and five swordtails. My twelve-year-old has a Siamese fighting fish. All three have goldfish. I have only three guppies in my tank, but plan to have more soon. Fishing is a family thing for us.

I don't have any pictures, yet. I haven't mastered taking good photographs through glass, but will some day.

I read somewhere I was supposed to receive a membership form in my inbox, but as of yet, I haven't. Did I do something wrong when registering?

Looking forward to participating in this wonderful forum.

Great to have you around the forum!

I find for fish pictures the best way to take them is to follow these easy steps:
1. wait until nighttime
2. turn off the flash
3. turn off the lights in the room (except for the tank light)
4. start snapping!

Other things include shortening the exposure time, upping the iso, ect. Mostly it is a matter of playing around with the settings on the camera, but if you do those four things you will get some nice photos :D

Thanks for the tips, Kribby. I thought it would be better to do it on a bright day with the sun shining in the room. I'll give it a try tonight. I can change the ISO on my camera, but never do. But for pictures of my fish, I'll do it.

By the way, a friend told me she took a picture of her fighting fish with the flash and it instantly flopped to the side and died. She said it was a little lazy before that, but was positive the flash gave it a heart attack. Is this common?

Well, this is the first time I've heard of a flash killing a fish, but if it was stressed or ill before I can see how it might do the fish in.

Usually I say turn the flash off so it doesn't glare off the plastic or glass of the tank....
