Fish Rescue Program Empty Fish Rescue Program

Post by Founder Sun Sep 20, 2009 3:44 pm

If there are members who would like to take part in a fish rescue program with TACONS please let us know, post here and email admin or a member of the MOD team.

What do you need to be on the team!!

Be willing to help with a fish rescue, We will need some tank space, I have 3 aquarium running at this time for that, extra gear for thr rescue, bucket, bags etc. We would like to have members from all area of Nova Scotia and if members outside of NS would like to help in there area...That would be great

Think about it and please let me know...This will take very little time form anyone!!

If would also be nice if we had a member who would like to manage this problem. I would volunteer to help with this

I think this is a great idea. I just wish that I had some resources to help out.

I commend the efforts of everyone that can participate though. I will be cheering you on from the sidelines!

Post by RiverStone Sun Sep 20, 2009 6:31 pm

I always have some extra tank space. Right now I have a 29,10 and 5 just sitting here empty and waiting. I also have all the gear required to run them. I also keep more than one sponge filter running in my tanks so there is always something cycled kicking around. I don't have experience with large fish or cichlids but I'm willing to give anything that will fit in my spare tanks a home until something permanent can be arranged. I would just need help with dianosing problems and recommending treatment.

Personally I'd like some more details around how all this is suppose to work,
What exactly is expected of members, and to whom said rescued fish does these become once rescued, Such details as that would be nice,

I don't have much room as far as tanks for large fishies go but I've always got room for smaller tropicals. Also available in the Halifax-Dartmouth area as another set of hands to help with a rescue (bagging, netting, transport etc).

I will draw up some guidelines for how the program will work, and what we do if we get a rescue

For the members of the team this is how I think it should work...If one of us gets a call for a rescue we should let the team know by e-mail and by posting on our forum. We should than set up a time for members of the team to take a look at the situation and see what needs to be done. From there we will decide where the rescued species should go. If we have a large number of fish we should try to return them back to good health and auction them off online between our members. All proceeds should go towards our club. In the event that it's one or two fish the member who retrieves and cares for them has the option to keep them. If they aren't wanted then they should go to online auction. If no one wants them at the auction we can approach our local pet stores. Without making this too complicated, if any other members have suggestions feel free to post under the "RFP" (rescue fish program).

Thank you, Wayne
