Re: Fish Rescue Program
I actually took in about 30 cory's a few months back, plus the parents. When I arrived at the home ,she handed me the net and said "good luck". I had them rounded up in about 15 minutes, some can move and have kept all with the exception of a few I gave to someone just setting up. Oh the fin of it!

That is wonderful news ! They are such adorable little guys - I have a week old spawn on the go right now and they know already who's responsible for the chow

Re: Fish Rescue Program
Bronze corys (C. aeneus) - 10 or so ... and not on purpose. The eggs literally hatched in my hands last weekend. And it's happening again ... today... as we write [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . Parents are spawning up a storm in my danio and paradise fish grow out tank. I've already moved a plant to the spawning tank with a bunch of eggs attached. The current babies are growing like little weeds.

Re: Fish Rescue Program
I sent this on to a friend (the guy who helped me to get my gravel yesterday...) He saw the 119$ 29gal starter @ WalMart and was considering it... Maybe hell call and rescue them... He even said he was considering goldfish, he cant balk at the price!!
Even if someone was to take them on a semi permanent basis, like plan to keep their two favorites and foster out the rest! So sad to see this sort of thing...
Even if the current owner keeps them in a bucket or something for a day or two it would be better then flushing! at least increase their odds! People you CANT wait till its too late to ask for help! It is not a shameful thing to ask!! Only to deny it! But give us time (fish = logistics) lol
I am currently trying to rescue a pair of Jack Dempseys so... I do not think THAT would go well if the two fishes were to meet!
I hope they get rescued! Ill keep up the buzz...

Re: Fish Rescue Program
Well the ad is gone which means that he has probably flushed them. I didn't notice this till right now or else i would have taken them. Not for long as i don't like gold fish but at least until i could give them away. I hate people that flush fish. I use to as a child but then i thought about how long they may live after being flushed and that was the end of that. If anyone has contacted this guy and has his info pm me and let me know.

Re: Fish Rescue Program
I only have a spare 5 gallon tank, but am willing to take in smaller fish on a temp basis and make sure they are healthy for a bigger home.

Re: Fish Rescue Program
That word flush sends me almost in a tizzy,.
I had been gone most of the day and first thing I found when I got home was that ad on kijiji, If it had not been in Halifax and then a 6 hour drive to boot I would have dropped everything and run get the poor guys...
Goldfish seem to be the most poorly respected fish out there, too many seem to meet their demise in the toilet bowl, What a What a way to go,

Re: Fish Rescue Program
Sorry I didn't see this. I have a spare 29 gal that I could have used. Not really big enough but I also have totes. We are also in the process of building a 5 ft deep pond that may have been able to house them on a more semi-permanent basis.

Re: Fish Rescue Program
I think when I get back from VAC we should consider building a flyer to promote the FRP {fish Rescue Program} and pass it out at local sponsors and members!!

Re: Fish Rescue Program
Me and my roommate have a 10 and 15 gallon free, and I can fit some fish into my other 15 gallon or one of my 30 gallon tank :)

Re: Fish Rescue Program
maybe we could put an add up on kijjij for the fish rescue. might prevent some fish being flushed!
